Phishing Statistics - World Phishing

Phishing has proved to be a dangerous enemy, drawing the attention of security experts and computer users worldwide. The growing damages caused by this form of identity theft are subject of expertise and statistics in the security field.

The Virus Lab at Avira is constantly monitoring the evolution of email phishing over the World. Apart from writing comprehensive phishing descriptions and signaling outbreaks in Avira Security News, the virus researchers also conduct phishing origin analysis, based on the data collected by numerous trap accounts. This information gives you an overview of the geographical spreading of phishing attacks.

The World Phishing Map helps us illustrate this real threat. Select the time interval (Last 7 days, 30 days or 3 months) and see the origin of email phishing in that period across continents (phishing rate) and even the phishing number at city level.

Note: When assessing these results, the method called "hijacking" has to be taken into consideration. The origin of the phishing emails may be a different country/ area than the real target of the attack (use of spam-relay computers).
